BOUNDARY MEETING UPDATES

Boundary Update - March

Trustees approved the recommendations of the Facility Use and Boundary Task Force (FUBTF) (Plan 3) to create
attendance boundaries for the new Southwest Elementary School, and address overcrowding and under-capacity at
Boone, Clayton, Cowan, Kiker, Mills, Oak Hill, Patton, and Sunset Valley elementary schools. Approved recommendations
also include:
o Grandfathering will be allowed for students entering fifth grade in 2010-2011; and
o Current staffing levels at Boone and Sunset Valley elementary schools will be maintained, at District expense,
for at least the next school year.

The Southwest Elementary School will open in August 2010. Trustees are scheduled to name the campus on March 29.

Boundary Update - January

The FUBTF met last night to continue the discussions. There were various proposal made but in the end the plan 3 map was approved and will be presented to the board on February 8th for discussion and February 22nd for vote.

This approved plan includes Circle C North and Vintage Place coming to Kiker that has not changed from the recent meetings and our numbers stay at 106% of permanent capacity in 2010-11 and 105% in 2014-15. The district recommendation for a stable community like Kiker is a percent capacity of 105%. By accepting these additional students from Mills, we have helped create the best possible balance of students for the Southwest Austin area while keeping our school within a healthy and manageable range.

The FUBTF also recommended to the board that grandfathering be approved. If the board approves, it will give the 4th grade students and siblings the opportunity to stay at their current school. From the students slated to come to Kiker, AISD projects around 25 of those will stay at their current school next year.

Additional information will be available at the following link within a couple of days of the meeting. http://www.austinisd.org/inside/2004bond/boundaries/swes.phtml. If you have any questions, please contact us at kikerboundaryreps@yahoo.com. Thanks, Kristi Samon and Scott Logan
