LOVE YOUR LIBRARY FUNDRAISER - FEB 1st through 11th

You can Support our library in 4 ways:

  1. Parents can make an in kind donation. Receipts will be provided for each donation and are tax deductible since we are a 501(c) 3.
  2. Students can make a monetary donation at their parent's discretion.
  3. Parents and students can opt to take part in the Birthday Book Club Program for a donation of $15 (contact Ms. Smith for a list of pre-selected books for this program). The donation will allow parents to dedicate a library book in their child's name or a loved ones name.
  4. Parents and students can make a purchase through The Melting Pot. They will be offering chocolate covered strawberries, a fondue box and gift cards. A portion of these proceeds will be given back to Kiker.

BOX TOPS CHALLENGE - Now until Feb 19th - Win a Popsicle Lunch!

Let's double Kiker's Box Tops earnings for this 2009-2010 school year!

Kiker students have already collected an astounding 11,020 Box Tops this school year. In fact, this school year's current total earnings of $1,102 rivals last school year's total and we still have more time. So, we challenge you, the students, to collect yet another 11,020 Box Tops.

If the Kiker student body is able to complete this challenge the entire school will be rewarded!!! To jumpstart this challenge we will have another Box Tops collection contest. The two classes that collect and turn in the most Box Top$ Bucks by February 19th will be treated to a popsicle lunch on the deck. So, CUT IT OUT!!! Ask your neighbors, family and friends to help. Start collecting now! The contest starts Monday, January 25th. The last day to turn in Box Top$ Bucks for the contest is February 19th, but remember to keep them coming through May for the Box Tops Challenge!

For the Box Tops Turn-in Form, click here.

Good Luck! And Thank You!!! Questions? Contact Christy Zimmerman and Kathy Rush

GENERAL PTA MEETING - FEB 18th - "MIDDLE SCHOOL 101"

Do all middle schools have lockers? Is there really enough time to get from class to class with a stop at my locker? What is band like at Gorzycki? Will I get lost? How can I get my student organized? Students from area middle schools will be on hand to answer questions from Kiker students and parents.

GENERAL PTA MEETING - MAR 30th - "KIKER PTA BOOK SWAP"

Do you have a stack of children's books at home that your children have outgrown? Trade in those books for different ones at the Kiker PTA Book Swap! What a great way to encourage the love of reading!

This is how our book swap will work: In March, you will receive a form to complete and return with the books that you want to swap. Volunteers will collect and sort the books by reading level. Your child will receive a certificate to take to the Book Swap to redeem for the same number of books submitted.

Do you want to clean out your bookshelf now? You can donate books directly to the program by placing them in the book box outside the Kiker front office. These extra books will insure that all children receive a book.

After the swap, extra books will be donated to our teachers' libraries, the Kiker Library and Allison Elementary. If you have questions or wish to volunteer for this project, please contact Joan Reed via email or phone at 288-6795 or contact Rebecca Hoard via email or phone at 301-0410.

VOLUNTEERS - WE NEED YOU! WE NEED YOU! WE NEED YOU!

We've had Bike Fest and Gift Wrap come and go with great success, but the future is busy and we need YOUR help! Many parents have already committed to various projects and events. Those who do volunteer on a regular basis are so wonderful and so involved, but I'm sure they'd love to have others come in & help out too.

Please consider volunteering your time. There are jobs to fit every schedule! Your participation is one of the facets that makes Kiker the outstanding environment it is!

Immediate volunteer needs include:

  • Camp Read is a volunteer-based program designed to help students strengthen their reading fluency and comprehension. Volunteers work one-on-one with students and they make a difference by helping them grow into more confident readers. Camp Read offers an easy-to-follow curriculum and a flexible schedule. These 30-minute time slots are offered throughout the day during school hours. Volunteers sign up for as few or as many time slots as they wish. Please email Christie Whittington or call her at 301-0930 if you’re interested in volunteering.
